The murder of Dayna Isaac bore the devastating hallmarks of too many domestic violence killings.
At 28-years-old, she was killed inside her western Sydney apartment by an angry, jealous and manipulative man, furious because she did not want to be with him.
Paul Jason Sultana, 35, was found guilty on Friday of murdering Isaac, described by friends as an “amazing mother, “life of the party” and a “friend to everyone”.
But in dramatic scenes, Sultana stabbed himself in his left arm with a sharp object inside the courtroom after learning his fate.

Court officers responded immediately and NSW Ambulance attended to him shortly after, taking him to hospital.
A Corrective Services spokeswoman said staff were being supported following the incident and an invesitagation is underway.
Before being ushered out of the courtroom, Isaac’s loved ones wore pink while waiting for Supreme Court Justice Peter Garling’s verdict. He found that on January 16, 2023, Sultana brutally murdered Isaac inside her Penrith home out of anger at her rejection.
“The killing of the deceased occurred against the background of an unsettled relationship, with the accused showing feelings of jealousy and being unable to accept the relationship of the kind which the deceased wanted,” Garling said. He added that Isaac’s plea for space was met with “either disappointment, anger, or self loathing”.

“His feelings of jealousy, particularly in the week before the deceased’s death were strongly felt and expressed”.
Garling was “satisfied beyond reasonable doubt” that Sultana murdered Isaac by deliberately physically assaulting and then strangling her, noting compelling evidence including the “widespread occurrence” of his DNA on her clothes, her body and the cord found wrapped around her neck.
