Golden Dragon Mining has secured a hefty $2.2 million cornerstone investment from a subsidiary of Shanghai-listed heavyweight Chengtun Mining Group at a stunning 17.65 per cent premium to its previously traded price.

The deal will see Chengtun Gold take up a 19.89 per cent stake in the junior explorer by subscribing for 11 million shares at an issue price of $0.20 a pop, with the funds earmarked to accelerate exploration at its Cue gold project in Western Australia’s prolific Murchison region.

Golden Dragon Mining has just secured a $2.2 million 19.89% cornerstone placement from Chinese company, Chengtun Mining Group.

The move demonstrates a significant vote of confidence in Golden Dragon’s strategy and will see the globally recognised Chinese mining group earn the right to nominate one director to the company’s board.

Chengtun Mining Group is a resource development company with a core focus on new energy and base metals, boasting significant mining and refining operations for copper, cobalt and nickel spanning both China and Africa. The company says gold and other precious metals are a pivotal strategic pillar for its future growth, with its investment in Golden Dragon marking a clear step in that direction.

‘Their involvement positions Golden Dragon to accelerate development activities and pursue growth opportunities.’

The proceeds from the placement will be ploughed directly into the ground to fast-track exploration at Golden Dragon’s flagship Cue gold project, where recent work has started to paint a picture of a much larger mineralised system than previously thought.

Golden Dragon Mining managing director Simon Buswell-Smith said: “This cornerstone investment by Chengtun Gold represents a strong endorsement of the quality and potential of our Cue Gold Project and broader asset portfolio. Securing the support of a globally recognised and well-capitalised mining group provides independent validation of our exploration strategy and reinforces our confidence in the scale and opportunity ahead.”

The company recently lit up a mouthwatering three-kilometre-long gold-in-soil anomaly, effectively stitching together four previously separate prospects into what looks to be a single, large, mineralised corridor.

The maiden auger program returned gold values up to 720 parts per billion, with the company noting the targets march in lockstep with arsenic and antimony, a combination it describes as a “classic orogenic gold pathfinder signature”.

Orogenic systems are typically structurally controlled and responsible for some of the world’s largest gold deposits, including the legendary 60-million-ounce Kalgoorlie Super Pit.

The newly defined 3km-long corridor adds considerable weight to a string of high-grade reverse-circulation drilling hits the company has already bagged at the individual prospects now linked by the new soil anomalies.

At the Coodardy prospect, drilling in May returned a chunky intersection of 12 metres at 6.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from just 44m, which included a 4 metre section running a stellar 17.6g/t gold. That result followed an earlier hit in February of 8 metres at 10.82g/t gold from a shallow 25m.

Additionally, the Behring Bore prospect also delivered with a solid 4 metre hit grading 5.3g/t gold from just 44m, sitting within a broader 20m mineralised envelope running 1.57g/t gold.

The company is now planning an aircore program in August and will look to advance its broader exploration pipeline, including heritage surveys and drilling at other regional targets.

The strategic partnership comes with a two-year standstill agreement, preventing Chengtun from acquiring further shares without board approval, offering a stable platform for Golden Dragon to execute its exploration plans.

The company’s ground sits in a well-endowed part of the world, with the Murchison region of WA hosting a litany of major gold deposits. Golden Dragon has previously pegged new ground right next door to Westgold Resources’ formidable 2.3-million-ounce Big Bell mine, highlighting the golden pedigree of the neighbourhood.

With a major strategic partner on the register, a fresh $2.2 million in the bank and a compelling 3km-long gold corridor peppered with high-grade hits, Golden Dragon now appears to have both the funding and the technical backing to get serious at Cue.

For Golden Dragon, this cash injection isn’t just fuel for the drill rigs, it’s a powerful endorsement of its geological theory that could see the company’s Murchison story gather some serious pace.

And when a global player with deep pockets pays a premium to get on board a junior explorer, the smoke signals it sends are enough to make your leg twitch.
