A boy was seen getting into difficulty in the water at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln

The body of a 15-year-old boy has been found after he went missing in a lake in Lincoln, police have said.

Emergency crews were earlier called to reports of a boy getting into difficulty at Swanholme Lakes at about 14:30 BST on Sunday.

Lincolnshire Police said his body was found after scouring the lakes using an underwater search team.

"This is such a sad incident that will no doubt also affect many of (his) friends and the local community as well," Lincolnshire Police said.

Swanholme Lakes is a nature reserve about three miles (5km) from Lincoln city centre

A spokesperson added: "As we are starting half-term week, we ask our community to make sure that anyone affected is looked after and that people are encouraged to seek help and support where they need it."

Police have also urged people not to share information about the incident that has not come from an official source.

Swanholme Lakes is a local nature reserve and a nationally recognised Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Sunday was provisionally the UK's hottest May day in 79 years as temperatures soar to 32C in Heathrow.

In Lincoln, the temperature earlier was about 25C, according to the Met Office.
