I did wonder about any subliminal messaging but can only conclude that it may be a traditionally formatted attempt to cash in on the burgeoning fast food delivery car market. Perhaps it should be read as Express Yum Cha.”
“I can sympathise with Jack Dikian’s childhood recollections of watching Play School (C8) and his disappointment in choosing the incorrect window,” says Viv Munter of Tumbi Umbi. “During the ’70s, I recall watching Romper Room and waiting with bated breath for Miss Helena to acknowledge my name when she peered through the magic mirror. Disappointingly, she could never see me.”

Jennifer Killen of St Peters has another regional first-time film (C8) experience: “My first visit to Leeton’s beautiful Roxy Theatre was a big adventure for a preschooler. I remember nothing of the movie which engrossed my mother and great-aunt, but the decades have not erased the memory of climbing up and over the seats behind, all the way until I reached the top. I then realised I could open the blinds and look out across the main street from above. Much more fun than watching the movie.”
“In the early ’50s, my parents, my brother and I went to the pictures every Saturday night in Marrickville,” recalls Dennis Fardy of Warriewood. “We had reserved seats and wore pyjamas and dressing gowns so we could go straight to bed on getting home. Ironically, the only movie I can remember from that time is The Robe.”
