Ah Chee goals as rain falls again

By

The Crows have kicked four goals in a row as Callum Ah Chee marked, albeit with a juggle, and then kicked a goal from 40m out.

As the ball sailed through the goals, you could see the rain returning, thus making scoring conditions that little bit harder.

It will take something special for the Cats to come back.

‘An absolute no-no’: Dawson goals but Walker in trouble

By

Jordan Dawson has booted the first goal of the second half but Taylor Walker could be in some big strife after seemingly pushing young Cat Connor O’Sullivan into oncoming players.

Dawon’s goal was a cracker, while O’Sullivan was lucky to avoid serious injury in the collision. Same with Dawson, who almost had his legs taken out by the sprawling players.

Walker is only just back in the side after a stint in the SANFL on his return from injury.

“That’s an absolute no-no,” David King said on Kayo Sports.

What a night for the first-gamer so far

This time last week, Hugo Hall-Kahan was working in retail while studying graphic design. Tonight, Adelaide’s mid-season draftee pieced together a near-flawless first half of AFL footy, against Geelong, no less.

Running off a half-back flank with the aplomb of a 200-gamer, Hall-Kahan barely wasted any of his 11 disposals, along with rebound-50s and three inside-50s. The Crows may have found one here.

What Neale Daniher told daughter Bec in their final conversation

By

Neale Daniher’s daughter has revealed her final conversation with her late father was about the speech he would deliver Melbourne and Collingwood players before this year’s Big Freeze game.

On the day it was announced NRL star Jai Arrow, who was recently retired after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, will toss the coin in Monday’s special King’s Birthday clash, the Magpies and Demons united to remember Daniher’s extraordinary contribution as the figurehead of the battle against MND.

A crowd of upwards of 90,000 – many of whom will be wearing blue beanies – is expected to honour Daniher, who died last month, at the match dubbed Big Freeze 12 – the fundraiser which raises awareness and funds for MND research programs.

Daniher’s widow Jan said the widespread and public support Neale received since his diagnosis for MND in 2013 will have a “profound and lasting impact” on the fight against the debilitating condition.

Half-time analysis

Will Geelong be left to rue these set-shot misses?

Ben Keays’ tie-breaking goal with 53 seconds left in the first half put Adelaide up by that margin – six points – at the main break, despite the Cats having four more scoring shots and five more inside-50s in the heavy conditions.

The early frenetic up-and-down nature of the contest predictably slowed in a second-term slog.

The Crows appeared to have more run in their legs as the quarter progressed, demonstrated by the rare sight of four Adelaide forwards and not a single Geelong defender by the goal-square when Keays goaled.

‘My intent was never to get him high’: Stewart on Ah Chee incident

By

Seven’s Mitch Cleary interviewed Cats superstar Tom Stewart as he was heading to the rooms at half-time to ask about his second-quarter incident with Crows opponent Callum Ah Chee.

“I thought I got him up the middle,” Stewart said of the incident late in the second quarter.

“I hope I didn’t get him high. My intent was never to get him high.

“I think he bounced back up, so I’m pretty sure I didn’t get him high.”

HT: Adelaide 6.3 (39) to Geelong 4.9 (33)

That late Ben Keays goal has put the Crows in front at the main break.

They haven’t beaten Geelong in their past six match-ups, but these slippery conditions seem to be working in the home side’s favour.

Better two than none? Crows’ comical mistake

By

Crows Toby Murray and Zac Taylor ran into each other as they both attempted to mark the ball inside the forward 50 arc.

Crows coach Matthew Nicks didn’t exactly look pleased as Murray then bowled over teammate Ben Keays.

But Crows legend Mark Riccuito showed his love of the Crows knows no bounds – even when they comically muck it up.

“Sometimes you don’t have time to look around, [you’re] better off having two blokes go for the footy than none,” Riccuito said on Kayo Sports.

But all’s well that ends well as Keays kicked an easy goal moments later – ironically enough when he and two other Crows players could have slotted it.

Debutant impressive in creating goal

Hugo Hall-Kahan looks like a veteran AFL player with his calm, methodical use of the footy.

How has this fella been playing in the state leagues?

Hall-Kahan switched play at half-back and the ball ended up with Taylor Walker, who booted a goal.

“This is exactly why they took that risk, to get better ball movement off half-back,” Crows legend Mark Riccuito said on Kayo Sports.

But yet again, the Cats won the ball after the centre bounce and Jack Henry booted a goal at the other end.
