Modra on the mend after facial surgery

By Roy Ward

Adelaide great Mark Ricciuto has warned fans that his good friend Tony Modra may not as “good looking” but he is on track to recover from a life-threatening truck accident earlier this week.

Many of Modra’s friends and family feared for his life after the truck he was driving crashed into a track in regional South Australia leaving him with very serious injuries.

But Ricciuto revealed on Saturday that Modra had completed a marathon round of facial surgery yesterday and was making very promising progress in hospital.

He said Modra needed surgery to repair the left-side of his face among other things.

Good afternoon

G’day everyone and welcome to our AFL live blog as we begin a busy Saturday of AFL action.

I’m Roy Ward and I’ll be getting us started today before the brillant Danny Russell handles the twilight and evening matches.

The opening clash of the day is a ripper as Adelaide and Melbourne battle it out at Adelaide Oval.

Both clubs look good enough to go deep into the finals, so this should be a super test for both of them.

First bounce is 1.15pm AEST. Enjoy the hours to come.
