Membrey on target
By
The Pies keep on keeping on this term and the Tigers can’t seem to get the game on their terms.
The Pies forced a turnover and found Tim Membrey on the lead.
He marked strongly and goaled as he has done several hundred times in his career.
Pies 42, Tigers 21 with five mins to go in Q2.
Brave goal from Manselll
By
Rhyan Mansell is back for the Tigers and back on the scoreboard as well.
He gut-ran through the corridor bolting ahead of teammate Seth Campbell who tried to chip it ahead of his mate; he might have over-hit it as it bounced in the goal square.
Mansell had to slide his boot out and it just connected in time to tap home the goal, he also partially collided with the goal post which wouldn’t have been comfortable.
The Tigers have missed Mansell but he’s back and firing.
Pies 35, Tigers 21 with 10 mins to go in Q2.
Danger signs for Tigers
By Jon Pierik
It’s code red for the Tigers, having conceded three goals inside six minutes to start the term.
Having hit targets in the first term, the Tigers have been poor to start the second term.
Skipper Nankervis needs to lift, having made two costly errors.
Pies kick three quick goals
By
It feels like the Tigers cubs are still chewing on their quarter-time oranges as the Pies have kicked two quick goals.
Pendlebury and Jordan De Goey combined to setup Patrick Lipinski for the second goal, following Dan Houston’s running goal.
The Tigers then copped a pretty light free kick in defence as Lachie Schultz looked to have been pushed but probably wasn’t.
Schultz still went back and kicked the goal.
Pies go direct
By
The Magpies won a free kick in the middle, found Darcy Cameron at centre half forward and he handballed to Dan Houston who sprinted through from behind.
Houston kicked the goal on the run and the Magpies are in the lead.
Surprisingly, it’s only Houston’s second goal of the season. The Magpies would do well to unlock his long kicking as they chase a finals berth.
Pies 21, Tigers 15 with 18 mins to go in Q1.
Quarter-time analysis
By
The Tigers have begun this contest well, and should even have a couple of more goals on the board, having dominated disposals (15-10 inside-50s) and territory.
They have largely moved the ball well, with Jasper Alger twice finding space to convert. They want to move the ball quickly, and this has at times troubled the Magpies and their older legs.
Indeed, it was odd to see Scott Pendlebury mis-kick straight to Nick Vlastuin at half-back.
Nick Daicos has both of the Magpies’ goals, one care of free kick for holding the ball on Toby Nankervis, the other after a 50-metre penalty on the wing.
He has only three touches, however, with Jordan De Goey, Dan Houston and Josh Daicos finding plenty of the ball. This shapes as an arm-wrestle.
Quarter-time stats

QT: Richmond 2.3 (15) to Collingwood 2.3 (15)
By
The Tigers and Magpies are locked together at the first change in a game where chances at goal are at a premium.
Perhaps the teams are paying tribute to the FIFA World Cup or perhaps the Tigers are still very young and the Magpies bereft of confidence and belief right now.
Jasper Alger and Nick Daicos have two goals each while Patrick Retschko has been brilliant for the Tigers.
It’s a shootout between Daicos and Alger
By
It’s the battle we all expected today.
Nick Daicos is dominating in one forward line, and Jasper Alger is starring at the other end.
Daicos was just gifted his second goal after the Tigers dispersed without someone standing the mark.
That led to a 50-metre penalty and a shot from 30 metres out.
Tigers 15, Pies 13 with three mins to go in Q1.
Taranto, Tiger fire early as pressure builds on Pies
By Roy Ward
Craig McRae flagged that Ed Allan would likely start on Tigers midfielder Tim Taranto but it fees like Taranto is ahead at the moment.
He has six touches already, while Jasper Alger has just marked and booted his second goal.
The Tigers are the better side so far. Where has that free-flowing Pies team from a few years ago disappeared to?
Tigers 15, Pies 7 with four mins to go in Q1.
