Poll: Who will be best on ground?

How Reynolds knocked back Hull KR swansong

Before we get into it, Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds lifted the lid this week on an approach to play under Willie Peters at Hull KR last year as he was sorting out his future. Reynolds knocked back a $1.5 million, two-year deal from the Tigers but briefly considered this morning’s opponents as well.

“I have a great relationship with Willie so if I ever was to come to the Super League it probably would have been under him,” said Reynolds, who will retire at the end of 2026.

“I always talk to Will on the side and check in to see how things are going...

“There was a little bit of thought [of joining Hull KR] there, but I have four kids at home and a wife and they are at a stage now where it’s pretty hard to uproot them again.

“We had a big move from Sydney to Brisbane already so if I was to come, it would have been on my own unfortunately, and that’s too hard for me with how I am with my family.

“It could have been a funny story, representing Hull KR against the Broncos, but it’s not to be.”

Late Mail: Maguire springs dummy-half switch

Final teams are in for both sides and as flagged earlier in the week, Cory Paix will start at hooker for the Broncos with Ben Hunt coming off the bench.

Plenty of familiar faces for NRL fans in this Hull KR line-up, even with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves cosied up in the Fox Sports studios having retiring after last year’s Super League grand final. Five-eighth Mikey Lewis is the key for the home side, along with coach Willie Peters up in the stands - this is not a star-studded side even by Super League standards. But Hull are a well-coached outfit.

Payne Haas: signing of the century?

And for those of you who have been living under a rugby league rock, Payne Haas is out of Brisbane at season’s end. He’s South Sydney-bound on a three-year deal to link once more with Wayne Bennett.

Aside from a very-vanilla club recorded interview, he’s yet to address the move, and this is his first game since the biggest call of his career.

Signing of the century? It’s right up there isn’t it?

Yep, it’s the World Club Challenge people, look alive. NRL champions Brisbane have ventured to sunny, shiny Hull to take on the locals Hull KR in a match that will define rugby league world supremacy once and for all.

Or at least until they can decide on the ad hoc year-to-year scheduling. Kick-off is at 6:30am AEDT, we’ll have all the action live right here with teams and a little bit more gibber before then. Stick around. Should be fun.
