Local trainer Danny Williams is hoping he can make an impact at Goulburn on Tuesday when he saddles up three leading chances.

Williams will combine with jockey Nick Heywood, who partners Rogue Nation in the 13 Skips Country Boosted Maiden Handicap (1200m) and Highway Strip in the Goulburn Hay Supplies Class 3 Benchmark 66 Handicap (1300m).

He will then have Black Opal winning jockey Pierre Boudvillain ride Silver Serenade in the Doyles Seafood Restaurant Benchmark 58 Handicap (1100m).

Rogue Nation has only had one start for a third at Wagga and Williams believes he is a galloper with talent.

“His trials were sound before he had his first start at Wagga, and he ran a good race there on debut,” said Williams. “He came through that run well, and he’s had another trial since then and won that at Goulburn.

“Tuesday’s race looks suitable for him, and he should run very well.”

Highway Strip has had 11 starts for two wins and three seconds and has been contesting city grade races since resuming from a spell.

“He lined up in The Kosciuszko in the spring, and he wasn’t disgraced when beaten around seven lengths,” Williams said.

“He resumed with a fourth at Randwick and then wasn’t beaten too far in his next start at that track despite finishing ninth behind Kreon.

“He was midfield in a Highway at Rosehill last time out behind Rose Aye, and she won that race very easily, so the beaten margin isn’t a concern. He is racing well enough to take plenty of beating at Goulburn.”

Silver Serenade is also lining up at Goulburn on the back of a last start midfield Highway finish at Randwick and her form prior to that was sound.

“She’s only had the seven starts and won her maiden in good style at Gundagai,” said Williams.

“She was beaten less than a length when fourth in good company at Rosehill three starts ago, and she wasn’t beaten far at Goulburn following that when finishing second and she’s drawn ideally in gate two on Tuesday.”
