The Wallabies will open the 2027 World Cup against minnows Hong Kong China in Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, October 1, at 6.45pm.

Hong Kong China are playing their first World Cup and are currently ranked 23rd in the world behind Belgium and Romania. The Wallabies will then take on New Zealand on October 9 at Stadium Australia in Sydney and will play their final pool game against Chile at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on October 19.

This masthead previously revealed that the anticipated blockbuster clash between the Wallabies and the All Blacks would not open the tournament.

The tournament will include a round-of 16 knockout stage for the first time, which will commence on October 23, with the final taking place in Stadium Australia on November 13.

“New Zealand a week later in Sydney will obviously be a massive occasion and we’ll get a sense of what’s that going to be like when we play them at Accor Stadium later this year.

“Personally, I’m thrilled our third pool game is in my home city of Brisbane against Chile who are one of the rapidly improving nations in World Rugby and will be a massive challenge.”

Last November, an understrength ACT Brumbies defeated Hong Kong China 63-31 in a pre-season friendly at Hong Kong Football Club.
