The incident occurred on Urawa Road around 5.20pm.

WA Police acting Inspector Tom Micklewright said police, including air wing and tactical response, spent the night searching for the man.

“The man fled the area with the firearm, and it’s believed he is travelling in a white Nissan Patrol Utility – with WA registration ‘1BIY336’,” he said.

The injured woman was shot in the arm and remains in Geraldton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Micklewright urged the community to be aware of their surroundings and to call triple zero if they spot Giles.

“We understand this may cause concern in the community … whilst this has not yet been resolved, I would like to reassure the community significant resources have been deployed,” he said.

Police are focusing their search in the Mullewa area, a small, pastoral town in WA’s Midwest region.

People who were present at the residence during the shooting are also being interviewed, with Micklewright conveying this message to Giles.

“We’d like to resolve this incident and ensure that everyone’s welfare is accounted for, so if you are listening, please make yourself known to police,” he said.
