WA firefighters heat things up

WA firefighters have punched above their weight in more than just emergency response this year, taking over the new Australian Firefighters Calendar to raise money for animal welfare, disaster relief and firefighter wellbeing.

Brett Francisco and Ben Church, from Perth, and Matt Haydon and Adam Walsh, from Bunbury, will feature in the calendar’s 33rd year.

This year, there are five different editions to chose from, with firefighters going topless, showing off their six packs and cuddling with rescue animals from cats and dogs, to goats, horses and even a koala.

The sale of the calendars has raised more than $3.45 million for animals and people in need since 1993.

Here’s a sneak peek at the calendar, with of some of the firefighters featured posing with rescue kittens.

Good morning WA

Morning all, and welcome to the live blog for Friday.

Making headlines today, more details into the assassination of former Rebels boss Nick Martin at the Kwinana Motorplex in 2020 have come to light during a trial in the WA Supreme Court.

The sniper and David Pye – the accused mastermind of the killing – came face-to-face with each other on Thursday.
