Police responded to calls after 11am about at least one gunshot in the vicinity of Park Street. At least six or seven people were involved in a heated altercation.

In vision seen by The Age, a man can be seen holding a gun as other men scream. Another person is lying still on the ground before being picked up and put into a car.

A man named Christian said he was sitting out the back of his building when he heard a loud bang.

“Then I heard aggressive screaming after.”

He said there were six or seven people fighting and one was holding a large handgun.

“A shot got fired,” he said. “I’m pretty sure someone got stomped, maybe someone got shot.”

Police said no one has been found with gunshot injuries so far.

“No person with gunshot injuries has been located at this stage as police continue to search the area,” police said in a statement. “Two females and four males were arrested nearby and will be interviewed.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined at this stage.”

Samara, who declined to give her last name, lives nearby and heard the commotion.

“I heard a crack amongst the noise,” she said. “I don’t know what it was. I saw two carloads of people running back and forth,” she said.

Another neighbour saw an ambulance at first, and a male pinned up against a wall who looked like he was aged about 16.

“It was bedlam,” he said.

One man who lives in the building outside which the attack happened, who asked not to be identified, said it wasn’t the first time this kind of incident had happened.

He said a machete had been thrown under his car about three months ago.

”I’m feeling a little bit rattled; just another day in St Kilda.”
