Four people wearing balaclavas in a stolen luxury SUV was enough to spark a police chase, that ended in a crash and discovery of a shotgun and jerrycans of petrol in the latest interception of an alleged Sydney underworld “kill car”.

Three men are due to face court on Tuesday, with a fourth on the run after a pursuit through western Sydney on Monday afternoon.

The black Mercedes-Benz sped away from police as they approached it on Regina Street, Greystanes, allegedly reaching speeds up to 80km/h on suburban streets before colliding with a parked car on Paton Street, Merrylands West.

The men ran from the scene, two of them chased down by officers while a third was arrested after being tracked by police dogs and a helicopter.

A loaded shotgun was found under the driver’s seat, along with two jerrycans in the rear of the SUV, believed to have been stolen from Victoria.

A 20-year-old Penrith man was allegedly driving the car, and has been charged with pursuit offences along with not displaying P-plates.

Two Woodcroft men aged 19 and 22 are also due to face Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.

The trio have all been charged with weapons and stolen vehicle offences.

The allegedly stolen car, carrying a gun and cans of petrol, is characteristic of the “kill cars” police allege are being used in Sydney’s spate of public place shootings linked to organised crime.

Police swooped on a “kill team” in a different stolen black Mercedes-Benz and another car in Revesby in October, allegedly on their way to murder a man outside a day care centre.
