A rideshare driver is fighting for her life after being stabbed multiple times in the face and neck in the car park of a Gold Coast shopping centre.

The 32-year-old woman was attacked outside Westfield Coomera Shopping Centre on Foxwell Road about 1.25am on Wednesday.

She was rushed in a life-threatening condition to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where police said she remained in a critical condition later on Wednesday.

Police cordoned off a section of the shopping centre car park as they appealed for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

“A crime scene has been declared and investigations into the circumstances leading up to the incident, including those involved, remains ongoing,” police said in a statement.

“Investigators are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with relevant vision to come forward.”

In 2023, Scott Cabrie – a much-loved rideshare driver and radio presenter – was fatally stabbed up to seven times near Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane, by two teenage passengers.

The 47-year-old’s body was discovered about five days later near a boat ramp in the rural town of Howard.

His attackers, aged 17 and 18, had been drinking heavily when they hatched a plan to arm themselves with a knife and a meat cleaver and steal Cabrie’s car.

They were sentenced last year to 15 years’ and 9½ years’ jail respectively, but could be released on parole after serving as few as six years behind bars.

In sentencing the pair, Justice Peter Davis described vulnerable rideshare drivers as “on-call victims”.
