Jockey Christian Reith will rely on a select four runners to give him success at Tuesday’s Muswellbrook meeting.

Reith has rides in just over half of the seven-race card, starting with the Rodney Ollerton-trained Russian Words in the Horsepower Maiden Plate (1000m).

A three-year-old filly by Russian Revolution, Russian Words made her debut with an eighth at Scone behind Herman Said in June, before resuming from a spell with a fifth of seven behind Kiss Goodnight at Gosford on December 31.

Reith and Ollerton combine again when Bent As Hell contests the Gold Sponsors Club Now Open Class 1 Handicap (900m).

Bent As Hell is a five-year-old mare by Hellbent and has one win and four placings from her 10 starts. She broke her maiden at Newcastle on January 25 and was then spelled after a fourth at Wyong when less than three lengths from the winner.

The Scott Singleton-trained Magurtz looms as a leading chance for Reith in the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders’ Maiden Handicap (1280m).

Reith partnered the gelding, by Tassort, in both his trials before being aboard in two race starts. Magurtz made his debut with a close-up fourth at Scone and then followed that with a fifth on the Beaumont track at Newcastle at his only other start.

Pre-post TAB fixed-odds favourite Crimson Wings is Reith’s other mount at Muswellbrook, with the Trapeze Artist filly lining up for her fourth start in the Magic Millions Class 3 Benchmark 66 Handicap (1280m).

Crimson Wings contested a city race at Rosehill on debut when finishing seventh and has had two starts since resuming from a spell. She did the job well when leading throughout to score as favourite on the Beaumont track at Newcastle when resuming and subsequently finished second at Gosford when running home well at the end of last month.

Meanwhile, Newcastle trainer Kris Lees will combine with jockey Andrew Gibbons with the one runner at Scone when Kirkall lines up in the same race as Magurtz. Kirkall was placed in each of two starts in July and August of last year and is first up from a spell.
