Have your say: who wins today?

Paix try denied

We have another Broncos try denied.

Cory Paix burrows across from dummy half, but he makes contact with the legs of Reece Walsh who played the ball.

That’s a no no because Walsh is used as a blocker.

No try Broncos, penalty Canberra.

Raiders 6, Broncos 6 after 19 minutes

Fogarty and Young team up to level the score

Ben Hunt mouths off at referee Ashley Klein after he rules a forward pass, and the Raiders are given a penalty for dissent.

It’s a very costly penalty indeed, with Jamal Fogarty putting a perfectly weighted grubber in on the last play, as Hudson Young charges through to score.

Fantastic execution from the home side, and Fogarty adds the extras with the conversion.

Shibasaki denied try after obstruction

Canberra escape unscathed.

Gehamata Shibasaki goes across to score, but there’s an obstruction from him earlier in the set, when he takes Jamal Fogarty out of play.

Penalty Raiders.

Broncos 6, Raiders 0 after eight minutes

Walsh kicks a 40/20 for Broncos

It is all Brisbane in these first few minutes.

Reece Walsh kicks early and nails a 40/20 to put his team in striking range again. That’s Walsh’s fourth 40/20 of the season, and it was done with such ease.

Here come the Broncos again.

Broncos 6, Raiders 0 after seven minutes

Broncos score inside three minutes after Raiders errors

Back-to-back errors from the Raiders and the Broncos strike.

First it was the fumble from Tom Starling, then it was a knock on from Zac Hosking while trying to clean up a grubber.

It was just too easy for the Broncos – served to them on a platter – and it’s powerful centre Kotoni Staggs who crashes over thanks to a beautiful ball from Reece Walsh, with Jamal Fogarty and Hosking unable to contain him.

Broncos 6, Raiders 0 after three minutes

Starling error in the first set

Uh oh. Early trouble for the Raiders.

Tom Starling goes for the quick play-the-ball but fumbles it. Broncos ball 30 metres out from the Canberra line.

Raiders 0, Broncos 0 after 30 seconds

Kick-off in Canberra

We’ve had the viking clap, now it’s time for the match.

The 2025 minor premiers Canberra run out to the roar of a sold-out crowd.

Josh Papalii strides to the back fence at GIO Stadium and charges onto the ball, taking the first carry for his team.

Nicolussi’s view on how the finals will play out

While we’re waiting for kick-off, let’s take a look at reporter Christian Nicolussi’s finals predictions.

Just so everyone knows, Christian hasn’t stopped bragging about his tipping form since the 2025 season begun. Annoyingly, he has a leg to stand on – he has well and truly topped the Herald’s ‘expert tips’ this year.

‘Nico’ has picked all the finals results so far, so here’s how he thinks the rest of them will play out this year and why.

The Broncos will relish the fast, dry deck and get the job done against the Raiders, with the week off to allow Adam Reynolds and possibly Ezra Mam to be back for a prelim. The Raiders will chug on, upset Melbourne in their own backyard, but ultimately fall short against the Broncos again come the big dance.
