Well, here we are. The last weekend of the NRL season proper is upon us, and there are still a few things to settle regarding the top eight.
Tonight, the Broncos have a chance to end one of those yet-to-be-settled items by booking themselves a spot in the top four. A win over Melbourne will only add to their 65-point buffer over the Sharks on for-and-against. For example, if they win by four, that’d leave the Sharks needing to beat Canterbury by 70 later in the round. NOT. HAPPENING.
A loss means a Brisbane team that’s had a big week off the field (more on that later) would need both Cronulla and the Warriors to lose this weekend to remain fourth.
As for the Storm, it is much simpler. Unless there is a 90-point swing in the four-and-against in them losing tonight and Canterbury winning this weekend, they will enter the finals as the second-ranked team and have a home match against the Bulldogs next weekend.
So, over the next few hours, follow along for match updates, today’s league news and some other news of note from the world of sport. Kick-off is 7.50pm.
