Man charged with murder over double stabbing at one-year-old’s birthday party

A man has been charged with two counts of murder more than 10 months after a father and son were killed at a one-year-old’s birthday party in Melbourne’s south-east.

Wurundjeri and Bidwell man Karl Gruber-Terrick, 23, and his father, Karl Dieter Gruber, 54, were fatally stabbed in a brawl at a home in Clyde North about 9.30pm on January 16.
On Tuesday, police said a 30-year-old man had been taken into custody in Doveton over the incident.

“He was interviewed by detectives and has been charged with two counts of murder,” police said in a statement.
“The man has been remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.”
The Gruber family has been frustrated with the lack of progress in the police investigation in the months since the stabbings.
However, Rebecca Gruber-Terrick, the daughter of Karl snr and sister of Karl jnr, said she was relieved on Tuesday when the arrest and charges were revealed.
