Man, 26, shot and killed in Melbourne’s west

Police have established a crime scene after a 26-year-old man from Werribee died of gunshot wounds in Melbourne’s west early on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the backyard of a house on Second Avenue in Altona North at about 3.30am after the man was found injured. He died at the scene.

Investigators say they have yet to determine if the death is suspicious.

Several police cars remain on the scene, while a red sedan with its boot open was visible behind the police tape in the property’s driveway.

Two people who used to live in the area both told this masthead they moved away several years ago.

“We left because there was a lot more trouble happening in the area,” one said. “A lot of illegal fireworks and cars racing down the road.”

“I shiver when I drive through the street,” said the other. “It’s not the same anymore, it used to be nice.”
