‘Listen, you muppet’: MacGill explodes at podcast co-host over Candice Warner reference
Former Australian Test spinner Stuart MacGill has unleashed a blistering, expletive-laden attack on his podcast co-host Andrew Menczel for referencing the insulting treatment of Candice Warner on the 2018 Australian Test tour of South Africa.
A clearly agitated MacGill referred to Menczel as a “f---ing idiot” for mentioning South African fans’ use of Sonny Bill Williams masks to taunt the wife of former Test opener David Warner.
Menczel has co-hosted the Cricket Unfiltered podcast with MacGill since late January. Monday’s episode was cut short after MacGill took exception to Menczel’s line of discussion about what the Australian Test team will face when they return to South Africa later this year.
“I’ve sort of been thinking a lot about 2018,” Menczel said. “I said it a few years ago, I do think the sexist treatment of Candice Warner by the South African crowds went way over the line.
“Going in with Sonny Bill Williams masks to try and taunt Warner is low. That is low behaviour. It’s targeting his wife which I think is pretty poor, and they can go pretty low.”
MacGill’s furious response ultimately led to the podcast being brought to a premature end.

“Well, I think it’s pretty low talking about it for starters, Menners, so you didn’t need to go into details there,” MacGill replied. “I think that’s shit. You’re a f---ing idiot.
“You shouldn’t go into details about things like this because you’re doing exactly the same as the crowd, OK?”
After Menczel tried to reason with MacGill, the former off-spinner became irate.
“Listen to me now!” MacGill said. “You’ve raised exactly the same issues, you’re saying the same thing that they did. And that is shit. So we’re not going to talk about that any more.”
Menczel appeared to accept blame and attempted to calm MacGill, saying, “That’s fair.”
But MacGill continued to berate his co-host, calling him a “moron” and threatening to end the podcast.
“It is fair,” MacGill said. “No, no Menners, Menners, what I want you to do right this minute, because otherwise this is going to be a very, very short-lived relationship, you need to respect players and their families a lot more than you do at the moment ... And if you cut that out, it’s the last time I ever work with you.”

Menczel replied: “I won’t cut it out at all, I’ll leave it in. I just think you’re missing what I’m trying to say.”
MacGill: “Move on. Move on. Move on. Move on. Move on. Listen, you muppet. When I say move on, I’m not saying keep talking about something.”
Menczel then suggested MacGill seemed “irritable”, which prompted MacGill to warn, “I may jump across the mic at any second.”
In May, MacGill avoided jail for his role in a $330,000 cocaine deal that was later linked to his kidnapping, in what a judge described as a “very public fall from grace”.
The 54-year-old was found guilty in March of knowingly taking part in the supply of a prohibited drug, having introduced his regular cocaine dealer to his partner’s brother.
