New York: US Vice President JD Vance has said anyone who attacks his wife can “eat s---” after the second lady was subjected to a torrent of racist abuse from far-right podcaster Nick Fuentes.

Fuentes has used racial slurs to attack Usha Vance, who is Indian American, and has called the vice president a “race traitor”.

“Let me be clear. Anyone who attacks my wife, whether their name is Jen Psaki or Nick Fuentes, can eat s---,” Vance said. “That’s my official policy as vice president of the United States.”

Psaki, former president Joe Biden’s ex-press secretary, has not made racist remarks about Usha Vance, but has suggested the second lady needs to be “saved” from the vice president.

JD Vance has been under pressure to push back against Fuentes, the 27-year-old leader of an antisemitic group known as the Groypers.

Last year, he called Fuentes a “total loser” who had “no place in the MAGA movement” but has so far attempted to ignore the racist attacks lobbed at his wife.

Speaking to UnHerd, Vance said: “Antisemitism and all forms of ethnic hatred have no place in the conservative movement”, adding that all forms of racist attacks were “disgusting”.

He also played down Fuentes’s influence in the administration as “vastly overstated” and suggested affirmative action was a bigger assault on his children than attacks from the white supremacist.

“Is Nick Fuentes really the problem in this country?” Vance said. “He’s a podcaster. He has a dedicated group of young fans, and some of them have been s---ty to my friends and family.

“Does that annoy me? Of course. But let’s keep some perspective. For the past five to 10 years, I’ve watched one half of our political leadership go all in on the idea that discriminating against whites in college admissions and jobs is not just OK, but affirmatively good.”

He added: “If you believe racism is bad, Fuentes should occupy one second of your focus, and the people with actual political power who worked so hard to discriminate against white men should occupy many hours of it.”

Vance said his children, who are half white and half South Asian, were among the most discriminated against under “the entire elite-college and jobs hierarchy” under Biden.

“It pisses me off that Fuentes calls my kids ‘jeet’ [a racist slur], and I appreciate that [Democratic congressman] Ro Khanna would never do that”, Vance said.

“You know what pisses me off a million times more? That Ro Khanna, AOC [Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez], and [Democratic senator] Chris Murphy would deny them jobs and opportunities because they have the wrong skin colour.”

Khanna, who is Indian-American, responded, saying: “You know what angers me a million times more JD Vance? Your administration detaining American citizens because they look like immigrants and have the ‘wrong skin colour’. Save us the lectures about discrimination by race.”
