Welcome to the 83rd Golden Globes

By Nell Geraets

Hello and welcome to the 83rd annual Golden Globes, which is coming in hot from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

We’ll be guiding you through all the glitz and glamour today, so make sure to keep your eye on our rolling coverage – even if you’re sitting at your desk at work. If you’re also keen to see the actual ceremony, you can watch from 12pm AEDT on Paramount+.

Our fashion editor Damien Woolnough will be guiding you through the best celebrity looks on the red carpet from 10am. At midday, the official award ceremony begins, which I’ll be covering, alongside our culture editor-at-large Michael Idato and culture reporters Garry Maddox and Bronte Gossling.

If you’ve never followed the Globes before, it’s the second major broadcast in Hollywood’s awards season this year, following only the Critics’ Choice Awards last Monday. It may not be quite as prestigious or serious as the Oscars or Emmys, but it always tends to offer a bit of boozy fun. This year, comedian Nikki Glaser will be returning to host for the second time in a row – clearly she did something right in 2025.

From Sinners to K-Pop Demon Hunters, there are plenty of incredible titles up for trophies tonight. So, buckle up for what could be a wild ride.

Heated Rivalry star sizzles on the red carpet

By Damien Woolnough

The stars of streaming hit series Heated Rivalry rose to fame by baring their buttocks and their hearts in the gay love story set against a backdrop of hockey, smoothie cafes and covetable cottages.

On the Golden Globes red carpet, Hudson Williams, who plays Shane Hollander, showed the paparazzi that he looks just as good fully dressed and off the ice in a snappy old Hollywood Giorgio Armani ensemble.

The white jacket with peaked lapels and oversized cummerbund added a touch of formality, while the unbuttoned shirt was a welcome call back to his character’s sexier side.

Wait, does this awards season look different?

By Nell Geraets

If you’re a loyal follower of Hollywood’s awards season, you may be feeling a touch discombobulated right now. How have we already had the Critics’ Choice Awards (which took place last Monday AEDT), but not the Golden Globes?

Loading

You’re not imagining things – the season underwent a shake-up this year. Although the Globes is typically the first ceremony of the prestigious season, it was announced in April that it would move to the second Sunday of January (today in Australia) to accommodate a new expanded broadcast event called “Golden Week”.

This left the first weekend temptingly free for the Critics’ Choice Awards (CCA) to fill, presumably in the hopes of setting the initial narrative for the season.

This isn’t the first time the Critics’ Choice Awards has tried to move up. In 2022, during the height of the Golden Globes controversy and boycotts over its lack of diversity and questionable practices (remember #TimesUpGlobes?), the Critics’ Choice attempted to take over the early January slot. However, it ended up being postponed until March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whether this shake-up is permanent, only time will tell.

Brittany Snow is Cloud Dancing

By Damien Woolnough

The Hunting Wives and Pitch Perfect actress Brittany Snow may have turned to Pantone for inspiration for her strapless Danielle Frankel gown.

Colour classifiers Pantone gave the off-white shade Cloud Dancer the honour of being Colour of the Year for 2026 and Snow is all in.

Snow’s relaxed, pinned blonde hairstyle signals a move away from Hollywood blowouts, with Lisa and Justine Lupe already on board with the slightly more casual approach.

Armani remembered

By Damien Woolnough

Nobody Wants This and Succession actress Justine Lupe has kicked off the red carpet tributes to Italian designer Giorgio Armani, who died in September. Lupe’s strapless pale apricot tiered gown with crystal fringe detail was sourced from the late designer’s autumn-winter 2021 collection.

Expect more vintage Armani pieces to make appearances across the awards season, as the designer regularly dressed Hollywood royalty such as Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett, Demi Moore, George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Lisa goes from ‘White Lotus’ to black drama

By Damien Woolnough

Thai rapper and singer Lisa has found her Hollywood footing on the red carpet following her acting debut in The White Lotus. The Blackpink performer made a dramatic entrance on the Golden Globes red carpet in a sheer gown from French label Jacquemus’ recent collection.

At the Jacquemus show, held at Versailles in June, the sheer gown appeared without undergarments, but Lisa wisely added a modesty bandeau top and statement choker.

Even in Hollywood, there can be such a thing as too much drama.

Dylan Efron finds his rhythm

By Damien Woolnough

He may have lost the Dancing with the Stars crown to Robert Irwin in the US, but Dylan Efron is already a red carpet winner in his shawl-collared Valentino suit on the Golden Globes red carpet.

The younger brother of High School Musical actor Zac Efron, sealed the style deal in a pale blue standing collar shirt, with a black embroidered button detail standing in for a bow tie.

Now someone needs to teach Dylan how to pose with his prominently positioned TAG Heuer watch in a slightly more subtle fashion.

Red carpet ready

By Damien Woolnough

Fashion editor Damien Woolnough here, ready to dissect the Golden Globes red carpet. We are expecting a serious high fashion event with ambitious stylists having scoured the blockbuster spring collections where there were 15 designer debuts from storied labels such as Dior, Versace and Celine.

If your favourite stars aren’t looking good, you can’t blame the runway.

The Vanity Fair and Amazon MGM Studios Celebration of the 2026 Awards season at Bar Marmont in Hollywood on Saturday night gave a sneak peek of what we can expect oh so shortly on the Golden Globes red carpet.

Bold fashion choices from Real Housewife Lisa Rinna in a black ’80s-inspired Bottega Veneta mini-dress from designer Louise Trotter (and hair that could be copied from Hackers-era Angelina Jolie) and Kate Beckinsale enjoying a princess moment (if you ignore the stripper platform heels) in a strapless Nicole + Felicia Couture gown with marshmallow pouffe skirt give hope for some style big swings.

Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie covered up in black trousers and black shirt from Louis Vuitton with a white jacket and butterfly brooch, while Abbott Elementary’s Chris Perfetti checked the office inspiration box in a plaid suit from Tanner Fletcher with matching tie.

Who has been nominated?

By Garry Maddox

Who’s running the show this year?

By Garry Maddox

Comedian Nikki Glaser is hosting for the second consecutive year after the disaster of Jo Koy three years ago. While not reaching the heights of Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey or Amy Poehler so far, she promises to be sharp and funny based on last year, when she called the awards “Ozempic’s biggest night” and joked that the assembled stars could do anything “except tell the country who to vote for”.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts (nominated for Jay Kelly and After The Hunt respectively) are the biggest Hollywood stars presenting. They will be joined by Amanda Seyfried (nominated for The Testament of Ann Lee), Miley Cyrus (nominated for an Avatar: Fire and Ash song), Ayo Edebiri (nominated for The Bear) and many familiar faces from film, TV, podcasting and, with Charli XCX and K-pop’s Lalisa Manobal, music.
