Top emerging apprentice Jett Newman has been riding the crest of a wave of late and is set to improve on her impressive form at Port Macquarie.

Newman had ridden winners in 11 of her last 50 rides before having no success at Beaudesert on Friday, but she follows up a day of riding at Doomben on Saturday when linking with four chances at Port Macquarie.

Newman, the talented daughter of former leading apprentice and jockey Mitch Newman, has three rides for trainer Neil Godbolt at Port Macquarie, as well as one for Gaye Ball.

Newman will start her day when partnering Smokey Saint for Godbolt in the Great Northern Hotel Kempsey Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1812m).

She will then link up with stablemates Sosueme and Steely Girl in the Macquarie Signs F&M Maiden Plate (1106m) and Harelec Class 3 Handicap Heat Of The Rising Star (1509m) respectively.

Newman rounds out the day when partnering Mr Vella for Ball in the Laurieton Hotel Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1206m).

Newman rode a treble at Grafton on Tuesday and is confident she can go on with the job.

“All three of Neil’s horses should run well,” said Newman.

“They haven’t been too far away in any of their most recent runs and if they can run up to that sort of form they’ll be thereabouts again.”

Newman also thinks Mr Vella can run well on the back of a last start midfield seventh at Tuncurry when beaten six lengths.

“He’s run the odd-good race and at his best a forward showing wouldn’t surprise,” Newman said.

Meanwhile, Newcastle trainer Kris Lees will only have two runners at Port Macquarie but expects both to figure prominently.

Lees will send around first starter Embodiment in the same race that Sosueme contests, while Night Agent starts from a wide gate in the Port Cranes CG&E Maiden Plate (1106m).

“Embodiment is a speedy filly that should give plenty of cheek,” said Lees.

“And Night Agent is a horse I have a lot of time for. He’s drawn very wide, but I think he can overcome that and win.”
