If you’ve ever walked down the street and wondered what it would be like to live in this or that home, you’re not alone. Whether period homes with intricate balcony detail or new builds with dramatic curves, the view from the street can do so much to attract potential home buyers.

The best examples back it up inside with great family accommodation, kitchens, living area and outdoor spaces too. Here are some of our favourites.

41 Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill NSW

Welcome home. The hedges are manicured, the iron lacework on the facade is delightful and the wall sconces make sure the front of the home is well lit. There’s a front courtyard hidden behind the hedge, and the residents of the main bedroom can look out to the iron lacework patten framing the balcony. Inside, there’s a striking kitchen that overlooks the backyard swimming pool.

909 Drummond Street, Carlton North VIC

This grand Victorian terrace is set up a flight of steps from the street and features cast-iron filigree, as well as stained glass around the front door, embellished with the name of the house: Listowel. The home dates to about 1890 and includes details such as ceiling roses, marble fireplaces and an arched hallway. There’s also a gourmet kitchen and a stylish swimming pool.

22 Princes Street, Hunters Hill NSW

This double-storey new home on the corner of its street soars above its fence and makes a dramatic impression from the street, all curves and lights and greenery. Venture inside and find a Taj Mahal Quartzite kitchen, five bedrooms and a sunny home office. The al fresco entertaining area picks up the curved theme.

21 Mount Street, Eaglemont VIC

If visitors are wondering why this home is so striking, it’s because it’s a creation of the lauded Kennedy Nolan Architects. The facade is wrapped in aged copper and the home is set in gardens by landscape architect Nathan Burkett. Inside, there’s a sculptural staircase, oversized kitchen bench, walk-in wardrobes in the main bedroom and a dining room that flows out to the outdoor area and pool.

9 Belmont Crescent, Paddington QLD

It might be set on a hill, but this renovated home with its gabled character facade stands tall above the street. The picket fence neatly matches the carport door, while the garden includes a jaunty succulent. There’s a kitchen with marble island and butler’s pantry, plus a barbecue – and room for the kids to run around in the backyard.
