The next step towards linking public transport to Brisbane Airport has been revealed in a new plan – and it includes much-vaunted flying taxis.

Queensland doctors, police officers and customer service workers have struck a deal for higher pay with the state government, while nurses, teachers and firefighters prepare to escalate their efforts to secure better wages.

Police are investigating a suspicious fire early on Sunday at a tobacco store west of Brisbane, amid fears of an escalation in the nationwide “tobacco wars”. A separate fire on Saturday afternoon resulted in the destruction of century-old Brisbane church rectory used for social housing.

In case you missed it, Saturday saw a murder investigation commence after a man was found dead with “critical injuries” in West End.

Two separate shooting incidents were also reported the same day, with a man and woman shot during an alleged early-morning home invasion in Rochedale while shots were allegedly fired at a Chermside home late on Friday night.

And it was good news in local sport with the Dolphins, Broncos and Lions all scoring wins at the weekend.
