Brisbane 2032 secures Fiji tourism whiz as chief marketing officer
By Cameron Atfield
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will soon have a chief marketeer tasked with selling the event to the world.
Former Tourism Fiji chief executive Brent Hill, who ended his tenure in the Pacific last month, will return to his native Australia to take up the role as Brisbane 2032 chief marketing officer in November.
“In 2032, the world’s attention will be on Brisbane and Queensland, and we have an incredible opportunity to elevate the city and state on the global stage like never before,” he said.
“I can’t wait to promote the wealth of accolades, people and experiences that makes us unique and attracts millions of people to our shores every year.”
Brisbane 2032 chief executive Cindy Hook said Hill had a strong track record with global campaigns.
“We have the opportunity of a lifetime to highlight Brisbane and Queensland on the world stage in 2032, as millions visit and billions tune in to witness one of the biggest sporting occasions and a truly unifying event,” she said.
“Having Brent’s global marketing and tourism experience positions us to maximise the opportunities the Games will afford, including supporting lasting legacies for Brisbane, Queensland and beyond.”

‘No excuses’ for protest behaviour, says Rishworth
By Daniel Lo Surdo
Workplace Relations Minister Amanda Rishworth said there were “no excuses” for the poor behaviour seen at Sunday’s nationwide anti-immigration rallies, in which neo-Nazis and other far-right leaders attended and addressed demonstrators.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was among the figures across the political spectrum who criticised the behaviour and messaging at the protests, saying that while some good people with legitimate concerns attended, speeches stoking division weren’t “the Australian way”.

Rishworth said there was “no place” for messaging that sought to vilify certain Australian groups based on their ethnicity or racial background.
“We all need to stand up and say there is no place to be calling for people – particular groups of people, if they don’t look like you – to be excluded from this country,” she told Nine’s Today.
“Obviously, we’re working with states and territories on the permanent migration figures, but we do need to recognise there was a large bump as we came out of COVID, but we are working on a sustainable migration system across the board.”
