A Brisbane mosque leader’s house has been severely damaged in a blaze.
The family home of Imam Shaikh Moulana Abdul Salik, head of the Masjid Taqwa mosque in Bald Hills, was reported alight about 6pm on Wednesday.
Three fire crews attended the blaze at the single-storey Telegraph Road home, which was under control by 6.30pm.
The family home of Imam Salik from Bald Hills mosque has been severely damaged in a fire.
“The fire was isolated to the back left side of the property,” a Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said.
Salik and his family were not home when emergency services arrived.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The house was severely burnt and is no longer liveable, a mosque spokesperson said.
The imam and his family have been moved to temporary accommodation while they seek something more permanent.
Insurance would cover repairs to the home, but not its contents, the mosque spokesperson said.
The Council of Imams Queensland said the family was dealing with immense shock, distress and hardship.

“While we are profoundly grateful that no lives were lost and that the family is physically safe, the emotional and practical impact of this incident has been significant,” it said.
“Imam Salik has served the community with sincerity, dedication, and compassion.
“During this difficult time, he and his family are in need of our collective care, support, and solidarity.
“The Council of Imams Queensland stands firmly alongside Imam Salik and is committed to assisting him and his family as they navigate the aftermath of this ordeal.”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help support Salik and his family.
It comes a month after a swastika and anti-Islam graffiti were spray-painted on the Bald Hills mosque.
The swastika and the words “f--- Allah” and “No Muslims = peace” were written in black paint on the mosque on December 19.
