As for the conditions, this is the last day of the British heatwave before temperatures dip to the mid-20s for the rest of the week. We are forecast to get some rain, too, so we will be back to status quo. But, as you can see from Katie Boulter tucking herself courtside under a Wimbledon-branded umbrella, it’s hot!
8.44pm
The Australian races to a 5-2 lead. He has the ascendancy and has eased into this match nicely. A standard three-set victory over about two hours of play would seem to be the perfect outcome for de Minaur today.
8.38pm
The Australian holds serve. And the window opens for him to push for another break. Time to put the foot down, Alex.
8.37pm
This really is an ideal soft opening for Alex de Minaur, given his recent struggles with mental fatigue and being a tad down on confidence. Carballes Baena has won only once in six previous trips to Wimbledon and lacks the weapons to hurt Demon. This should be a straightforward match for de Minaur if he is anywhere close to his usual self.
8.34pm
And there’s the first break of the match. Australia’s top-ranked man gets his nose in front in the opening set, leading 3-2.

The tight stands are jam-packed for this first-round clash. Temperatures have dropped slightly after a day-one heat onslaught in London.
8.28pm
Australia stared down a disastrous Wimbledon wipeout for much of the first four hours on Monday until a wounded Jordan Thompson stepped in to pull off another Houdini act at the All England Club.
After admitting on tournament eve that he was playing only because it was Wimbledon, Thompson sunk into a two-set hole against little-known Czech Vit Kopriva before completing a gutsy 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 comeback win across three hours and 37 minutes.
As it was, Thompson was the sole Australian from eight in action on day one to advance to the second round.
But the 31-year-old net-rusher – who played in a back brace, on painkillers and with an abbreviated service action because of his injury – looked crestfallen as he revealed he was no certainty to play his next match.
8.23pm
Games on serve. Carballes Baena, the world No.74, doesn’t seem that he’ll be a pushover for de Minaur. But let’s see.
