HT: Hawthorn 9.5 (59) to Fremantle 6.8 (44)

Luke Jackson missed a tough shot for goal after the siren as the Hawks took the points in that second term.
The visitors take a 15-point lead into the main break with Jack Gunston on five goals and Nick Watson causing havoc in the forward line along with Jack Ginnivan in the midfield.
The Dockers have been pretty good too - they just couldn’t slow the Hawks when the ball was repeatedly fed to Gunston.
Just how impressive is Gunston’s performance?
By Marc McGowan
It’s worth noting that Jack Gunston’s five first-half goals puts him to within two of his personal best. He kicked six goals in a game five times before twice slotting bags of seven during his All-Australian season last year. It is truly remarkable what the 34-year-old is doing late in a brilliant career.
Reid, Watson trade stunning goals
By
Dockers star Murphy Reid has just bolted into the forward line and kicked truly from 50 metres out. What a star.
Then down the other end, not to be outdone, Nick Watson has kicked his third. This match is something else.
Hawks 57, Freo 41 with eight mins to go in Q2.
Make that five goals for Gunston
By
“The number 19 is unstoppable” yelled Mark Howard on Fox Footy as Jack Gunston took another mark and kicked his fifth goal for the half.
The Dockers have some big questions to answer, the Hawks will need some defensive help as Tom Barrass was defending Josh Treacy before his injury.
Hawks 51, Freo 35 with 10 mins to go in Q2.
Barrass out of the game
By Marc McGowan and Russell Bennett
We are waiting for an official update from the Hawks but Tom Barrass has hurt his hamstring, according to both Fox Footy and Seven, who have shown the big man with ice on his hamstring.
That’s him done for the night, and likely for several weeks. Hawthorn continue to defy their injuries, but that’s a big loss.
They’ve got a tough enough task in stopping the Freo tall forwards tonight, but it’s Jack Gunston at the other end doing the bulk of the scoreboard damage.
Gunston slots another goal, Barrass off injured
By
The Hawks’ forwards are flying, with evergreen star Jack Gunston booting his third and fourth goals of the match already.
But the Hawks may have lost key defender Tom Barrass.
The elite defender left the goal after appearing to hurt his lower leg in a marking contest – he’s gone into the rooms. Time will tell if he can return tonight.
Gunston has kicked four goals, two behinds in a quarter-and-a-half of football.
Freo can’t handle him right now.
Hawks 45, Freo 35 with 12 mins to go in Q2.
Watson tackles, goals for the Hawks
By
Nick Watson has been a constant threat in this first half and he’s just chased down Brennan Cox deep in the forward line and he came up with a huge tackle, winning a holding the ball decision in the process.
Watson kicked the goal, his teammates loved it.
Freo’s Jye Amiss responded for the Dockers with a goal.
In other news, Mason Cox is on the bench and appeared to be favouring either his hamstring or knee, but he is on the exercise bike and looks to be playing on.
Freo 35, Hawks 33 with 16 mins to go in Q2.
Black boots are SO yesterday
By Russell Bennett
It doesn’t seem all that long ago when every player wore black boots, some with noticeable brand logos, but most without.
Then came the white boots to raise a few eyebrows.
Well, now, it’s a whole new ballgame. Most players wear the brightest colours they can get their hands on (or feet in), and it seems those who stick with the black boots are the odd ones out.
That is until you see what Dockers star Murphy Reid is getting around in… faux snakeskin and chrome adidas boots. We’ve seen it all now.
Ryan switched off Gunston
By
Luke Ryan is usually among Fremantle’s most dependable players but he is having a brutal first half trying to stop Jack Gunston.
He’s been switched from the star forward to Max Ramsden to start this second term, and he immediately gave away a free kick to Ramsden.
Luckily for Ryan, the young Hawk couldn’t kick the goal.
Brennan Cox is now on Gunston.
Dockers 29, Hawks 27 with 18 mins to go in Q2.
First-quarter analysis
By Marc McGowan
The game almost everyone had circled as the best of the round is living up to the billing.
Fremantle and Hawthorn are pinging the ball from end to end in Perth, but the Dockers kicked the last two goals to lead by two points at quarter-time.
Evergreen Hawk Jack Gunston is causing all sorts of trouble with five marks and 2.2 – it would have been three if not for a score review that showed his set shot struck the post – and is already onto his second opponent.
Luke Ryan struggled to keep pace with Gunston, so Brennan Cox will try where he failed. However, Hawthorn have a big forward to worry about themselves, with Josh Treacy with a match-high eight disposals, including the go-ahead goal in the final minute before the siren.
Something else the Hawks need to correct is their clearance work, given they trail 10-5 overall and 5-3 out of the centre. Docker Murphy Reid has three of his own.
