Australian cricket coach Andrew McDonald has joined the Geelong board.

The Cats announced his appointment on Thursday, growing a relationship between McDonald and the club which dates back to 2016 when he shared coaching tips with Cats coach Chris Scott.

Cats president Grant McCabe said McDonald would bring expertise the board needed.

“Andrew is a perfect fit to join our board, he brings an outstanding skill set and global experience in overseeing and shaping high performance environments delivering exceptional results,” McCabe said.

“As a club we have a passion for the relentless pursuit of progress, and alongside our existing directors, Andrew’s perspective and expertise in performance will play an important role as we continue to evolve, grow and chase success.”

McDonald said he was excited to join the board and looking forward to contributing to the club in this role.

“I am extremely excited to accept the invitation to join the board of the Geelong Cats. The opportunity to work with, and contribute to, an organisation that seeks constant improvement in its performance across all facets is extremely motivating for me,” McDonald said.

“I have always had a real passion for AFL football. The game is dynamic on and off the field, and I’m looking forward to playing my role on the board.

“To contribute to a club with such a proud history and strong values, with a commitment to continual growth, is a privilege.”
